Barack Obama gives hope to many

The Senator from Illinois, the man who no one believed could be President has won. And by a landsline. This is really an historic moment for US, but also for the world.

Just watching Barack Obama talk to the crowd that was gathered in Grant Park, in Chicago, was something that shows how different he is from other politicians.

He showed that he is human, that he still thinks in those who elected him, that he loves his family (he recognized his wife, Michelle, as the future First Lady, and he said he will fulfill his promise to buy his daughters a puppy for being so supportive).

I think this is going to be a very different Presidency compared with the last 8 years with George Bush. From the beginning I did not trust George Bush, no matter how much he tried to show his country and the world he was a good President. In 2000 and then in 2004 I was expecting that US citizens will see he was not the kind of leader US needed.

Now they have understood this and they decided to change the situation. They elected an 'outsider', a different kind of politician, an African American, a good decent person. As someone said in Twitter, this makes me believe in humanity again.

Democratic Convention from the view of an outsider

United States politics, from abroad, look a lot more interesting to me than the politics in my country.

First of all, Americans seem to know how to make a convention of politicians almost a Hollywood show. It's not easy, once you follow the way they do their campaigns or their summits, to take your sight from it.

The Democrat National Convention has been, for me, a very interesting thing to watch. From the point of view of my B.A. in Communication it shows how political propaganda should be made, from the politics point of view it gives examples on how the union of a party is more important than the egos of important contenders like Hillary Clinton, it demonstrates that it's good not to be all the time in the spotlight (like Barack Obama did) and let the person who will be the formula partner take the lead (like John Biden did this Tuesday).

Just watching the video in YouTube I found that the words used by Biden are encouraging, they pledge to the best of the people, not the worst like Mexican politicians do.

Here, in Mexico, everyone steps in the other toes. It's not possible to have union inside the parties, they fight for things like who will lead and they fight more when they have to choose who will be the candidate to the Mexican Presidency, electing her/him in an secret process and fighting the other contenders like they were enemies, not partners from the same party.

I find this disgusting and I understand how most of people in Mexico is not interested in politics. I believe that a politic strategy that tries to do people react because they have fear or they feel hate is not a good thing. I think that it is better to instill hope in a person than fear. But of course, that is my point of view and unfortunately here the strategy of giving hope to people is less and less used.

Update: After seeing (at this page) and reading (at this page) the speech given by Barack Obama I believe if Mexican politicians would have this passion to establish their ideas, people won't be so detached from politics as it is now. To me it was a great, great speach...

Arizona new law

Recently in Arizona was announced that any company knowingly hiring illegal inmigrants will have its business license suspendend.

The objective of this law is to curb the flow of illegal inmigrants to the United States. The problem, nonetheless, is shared by both countries and, in my opinion, it's not something that a ban can resolve.

A little example: peasants in a coffee plantation in Mexico earn almost 5 dollars for A DAY of work, with no social security, sleeping in shacks, suffering a 'discount' on its payment for using this facilities, and travelling from plantation to plantation in insecure trucks, packed like cattle.

In EU, this same peasant has better conditions and a better payment, besides of multiple options to work. It's not difficult to understand why someone will risk his life and spend borrowed money to find "the American Dream".

EU could use more money in helping to improve the economic conditions of Mexico and even find a way to verify the correct use of this resources. Instead, they spend in fences that at the end doesn't stop the illegal inmigrant flow.

Maybe for the federal goverment in EU it's easier to give spectacular hits and not long term solutions, but if they want to really stop this problem, then it will be better to study and implement new strategies.
