As an outsider I have followed the US election because I think, as many other Hispanic people, that what happens in the most powerful country in the world will affect us all.
I believe the US still gives opportunities to those who want to work hard and give something to others. I think also that someone who makes an effort can get to the highest level in their career.
This is evident in the fact that Barack Obama and Sarah Palin (a man and a woman we hardly knew about before this election) are now contending for President and Vicepresident for their parties.
It is amazing to think that a woman could be VP, but I am not so please of what kind of woman they chose for this job.
First of all, as many have said before me, she seems not curious or willing to learn about a lot of topics she should have in mind simply as a Governor and now as a VP candidate. She can't tell what newspapers or magazines she reads. She did not know what the Bush Doctrine was. She can't name any important decision of the US Suprem Court other than Roe v. Wade. She even speaks worse than any American citizen I have ever seen!
This could have solution if she was not been used as the vehicle to viciously attack Barack Obama and Joe Biden; if she would not be so willing to impose her ideas to any other women in the US. For example, I would not choose an abortion, but I respect any other woman who takes this hard decision.
It even seems she will do whatever she can do to get to a position where she is "a heartbeat away from being President". She put her family in the spotlight and, in some way, forced her pregnant daughter to marry, and even if she wanted to give the baby in adoption, for example, that was not possible being her mom who she is.
And this is not because she is Republican, I think the Republicans where doing fine BEFORE they decided to do this political movement.
I think you must run for any government post with the idea to rule for everyone, not only those who are like you.
I even believe that her performance could damage the posibilities of any other woman wanting to be VP or even President. This is the thing that makes me cringe and makes me believe the Republicans could have chose better.
